This is probably the best recipe for pizza that we have found. It is also very easy. Years ago, Andrea wrote the recipe down from memory. For the longest time we just mixed everything and used the dough immediately, but Andrea learned in culinary class to let the dough sit overnight and the crust is much better.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbl sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 Tbl yeast
- 2 cups Water lukewarm
- 2 Tbl oil
- 5 cups flour unbleached
- 1 cup tomatoes crushed
- 1 Tbl dried basil
- 1 Tbl dried oregano
- 1 Tbl garlic powder
- 1 pound mozzarella cheese shredded
- toppings of choice
Servings: 16 inch crusts
Instructions
- Combine sugar, salt, yeast and luke warm water.
- Let sit until bubbly.
- Mix in oil and flour.
- Knead till smooth.
- Let rest for 20 minutes before using.
- For a better crust, let dough sit at least 6 hours or overnight before using.
- Mix tomatoes with basil, oregano and garlic.
- Form pizzas and layer with sauce, toppings and cheese.
- Bake in 350 oven for 15-20 or until cooked through.
- OR: Grill until cooked through.
