Andrea requested a not sweet snack. We thought cinnamon popcorn might do the trick.
Nope. It didn’t. But the rest of us thought it was very good!
Ingredients
- 5-6 c popped popcorn up to 7 cups if you want less coating
- 1/4 c butter
- 9 ounces Red Hot candies
- 1/4 c granulated sugar
- 1/4 c light corn syrup
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
Servings: cups
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 225 F.
- Remove unpopped kernals
- Spread popcorn in a lightly buttered roasting pan.
- Keep popcorn warm in oven while making coating.
- In a heavy pan, mostly melt butter.
- Add the red hots, sugar, corn syrup, and salt.
- Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat; carefully stir in baking soda, it may bubble up.
- Working quickly, pour over warm popcorn stirring to coat.
- Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
- Remove from oven, and stir one last time.
- Let cool.
- Break into pieces; store in an airtight container.
