We like this so much that the first few years we were married, this was the first meal we served to any guest.
Ingredients
- 2 Tbl shortening
- 2 cubes beef bullion
- 2 lb beef stew meat
- 2 cup Water
- 1/3 cup grape juice or apple juice or cranberry juice
- 2 Tbl soy sauce
- 1 clove minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp onion salt or diced onion sautéed with stew meat
- 2 Tbl corn starch

Instructions
- Melt shortening in large skillet.
- Brown meat on all sides.
- Stir in boullion, 1 1/2 cups water, juice, soy sauce, onion and garlic salt.
- Heat to boiling.
- Reduce heat, cover and simmer until meat is tender, about an hour.
- Blend remaining water and cornstarch and gradually stir into meat mixture until it thickens and boils.
- Boil and stir one minute.
- Serve over rice.

Crock pot version: Combine first 7 ingredients in crock pot and cook on low till meat is tender (all day).
Add cornstarch and water mixture and let boil to thicken one minute before serving.
