These are super easy biscuits to make. I often start the dough ahead of time and place it in the refrigerator. Then I pull it out and finish it just before I want to bake the biscuits.
These are our favorite biscuits to serve with gravy.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 c flour
- 2 Tbl baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 Tbl dry buttermilk
- 1 stick unsalted butter cubed
- 1 cup + 2 Tbl ice cold water

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425.
- Use cold butter cubes for best results!
- Mix flour, baking powder, dry buttermilk, and salt together.
- Add the cubed butter and cut into the dry ingredients with a pastry cutter until coarse crumbs form.
- Place in fridge for a few hours if desired.
- Make well, pour water into, and stir until just combined.
- Lightly knead dough on lightly floured surface.
- Form into rectangle and then fold one side into the center, then the other side.
- Gently flatten and fold again. Repeat twice.
- Gently roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut into 3-inch circles.
- Arrange with sides touching in a lightly greased 10-inch cast iron skillet or baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven. Brush with melted butter if desired
- Enjoy warm.
Recipe Notes
Optional: replace dry buttermilk and water with 1 cup +1 Tbl cold buttermilk. Great with gravy!
