The first time I remember ever having these was for our wedding rehearsal dinner. We have enjoyed them often over the years.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 2 lbs bacon cut cross ways of strip
- 2 large onions diced
- 1 large bell pepper diced
- 45-56 oz canned pork and beans
- 2 Tbl black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 3 Tbl garlic powder
- 1/2 cup mustard
- 2 cups catsup
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1 bunch green onions diced
Servings: people generously
Instructions
- Cook ground beef until done. Put in crock pot
- Fry bacon in skillet until crispy. Strain and add to crock pot.
- Use part of bacon grease to fry onions until translucent. Add green peppers just before done. Add to crock pot.
- Add pork and beans.
- Add salt, pepper, garlic, mustard, catsup, and brown sugar.
- Heat on low till warmed through.
- Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
- Garnish with green onion if desired.
Recipe Notes
Serve with a salad and garlic bread
Optional: Instead of using the crock pot, simmer in large stock pot until warm. It only takes a few minutes.
Optional: Use half the meat called for if desired.
Optional: Reduce ketchup to 1 1/2 cups, mustard to 1/2 cup, add 1 Tbl molasses and 1 cup granulated sugar.
