Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Place first 7 ingredients in mixing bowl in order given.
  2. Add half the flour and cinnamon and other spices; blend at medium low for 3 minutes.
  3. Stir in currants and remaining flour to make a very stiff dough.
  4. Dough may be kneaded 3-5 minutes if desired.
  5. Cover; let rise in warm place 45 minutes until doubled.
  6. Divide dough in half.
  7. Divide each half into 12 equal pieces.
  8. Shape into smooth balls.
  9. Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets.
  10. Cut a cross on top with sharp knife.
  11. Cover, let rise until light and doubled in size, about 45-60 minutes.
  12. Bake at 375 for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. Cool.
  14. Either pipe a cross on top or glaze the top with vanilla glaze.
